What it means

The OE error code on an LG washer signifies an 'Outlet Error.' This alert triggers when the appliance cannot finish draining its water load within the standard 10 to 15-minute window. The central control board tracks water levels using a pressure sensor (pressure switch). As the drain pump works, the water level should decrease, altering the air pressure inside the air dome hose. If the pressure sensor does not send a signal indicating an empty tub by the time the drain cycle times out, the board stops the process and displays the OE error to prevent potential water damage or motor failure. This is almost exclusively a drainage problem, usually caused by a physical obstruction or a faulty drain pump motor. In rare cases, a buildup of debris in the air dome hose or a failing pressure switch can cause the control board to misread the tub as full when it is actually empty.

   Small items like coins, hair, lint, or keys can get stuck in the coin trap, creating a physical barrier that stops water from reaching the pump impeller.

   Failed Drain Pump Motor

   The pump motor might have shorted or open windings, or the impeller could have snapped off the shaft, rendering it unable to move water even when 120V AC power is supplied.

   Obstructed Drain Hose or Standpipe

   If the external drain hose is kinked or the household plumbing standpipe is blocked, the resulting backpressure prevents the pump from effectively clearing the water.

   Small garments, such as infant socks, can be pulled into the bellows hose connecting the outer tub to the pump, effectively strangling the water flow.

How to clear / reset

To reset the OE code, press the Power button to shut down the washer, then unplug the machine for 60 seconds. Keep in mind that the code will reappear immediately if the drainage issue isn't resolved. Before attempting a reset, you must drain the tub manually. Find the access panel on the front-bottom-left of the unit. Unclip the manual drain hose, remove the plug, and empty the water into a shallow container. After the water is gone, unscrew the large drain filter (coin trap) and clear out any obstructions. Once clean, reassemble, plug the unit back in, and start a 'Spin Only' cycle to confirm the pump is working and the error code has cleared.
