The F02 error code on a Maytag washer signals a 'Long Drain' fault. When the main control board triggers the drain pump to empty the tub, it monitors the water level pressure switch (or pressure transducer) to confirm the drum is empty. If this process takes longer than the factory-set threshold—usually 8 to 10 minutes—the system stops the cycle, unlocks the door if safe, and displays the F02 code. This safety protocol prevents the drain pump motor from burning out and guards against flooding your laundry area. Typically, this is a mechanical issue involving a physical blockage, a malfunctioning drain pump, or excessive suds (suds lock) hindering water flow. Less often, a defective pressure switch, an obstructed air dome hose, or damaged wiring between the pump and the Central Control Unit (CCU) might trigger a false F02 alert.
