What it means

The OE error code—which might appear as OF, E3, or WA on some Samsung units—signifies an Overflow Error. This happens when the water level pressure switch signals to the main control board that the drum has surpassed its maximum capacity. To prevent water damage in your home, the machine enters a safety mode: it stops the cycle, locks the door, and runs the drain pump indefinitely to remove the excess water. This usually stems from a mechanical issue letting water in when it shouldn't, or a sensor issue where the machine thinks it is overflowing when it is not. The pressure switch tracks air pressure via a hose connected to the bottom of the tub. As the tub fills, air is compressed. If the sensor frequency falls outside the expected range, the PCB triggers the overflow alert. Determining whether you have an actual flood or a false reading is the first step in your repair.

   Stuck Water Inlet Valve

   This is the most common culprit. If the internal diaphragm is worn or blocked by sediment from your home's water lines, it may fail to seal completely, allowing water to trickle into the drum even while the machine is powered off.

   This component translates air pressure into an electrical frequency for the control board. If the internal diaphragm fails or the sensor experiences an electrical short, it will report an incorrect overflow status.

   A small tube links the tub to the pressure switch. If this becomes kinked or obstructed by soap buildup or debris, air cannot move freely, causing inaccurate pressure readings.

   Using non-HE detergent or using too much soap leads to thick foam. This foam can rise into the pressure hose, interfering with the sensor and tricking the washer into thinking the tub is overfilled.

   If a relay on the main PCB gets stuck, it may continuously supply 120V AC to the inlet valve, keeping it open. This requires testing with a multimeter to confirm.

How to clear / reset

To stop the drain pump and try to clear the OE error, unplug your washer for 5 minutes. While the unit is disconnected, watch the drum. If water continues to enter, your inlet valve is stuck open and must be replaced; shut off your home's water supply immediately. If the water stops when unplugged but the error returns once power is restored, the problem is likely the pressure switch, the hose, or the control board. A simple reset will not fix the issue permanently until the faulty hardware is addressed.
